Esther Viersen is a scenographer, performance maker and educator based in the Netherlands. Her practice operates at the intersection of scenography, performative research and visual art, with a strong focus on material processes, duration and embodied attention. After completing a BA in Theatre Design at the Minerva Art Academy (Hanze University of Applied Sciences), Esther worked extensively as a set and spatial designer for theatre, film and other performative contexts.
In recent years, her practice has increasingly shifted toward artistic research and performance, exploring themes of transience, care and the presence of absence. She developed this work during an MA trajectory in the master in theatre course at the toneelacademy Maastricht(University of Applied Science Zuyd). Alongside her artistic work, Viersen is active as an educator and program coordinator in spatial design education.
In the performance Now is the Rainbow, she works as the principal artist and performer, collaborating
project-based with visual, lighting and sound designers depending on context and scale.

Kind regards,
